About Shinnyo-en

Shinnyo-en is an international Buddhist community originally established in Japan in 1936.  It is a place where all people regardless of age, gender, nationality or religious background can learn how to use each day as an opportunity to connect with others and seek enlightenment.

Shinnyo Buddhism is based on the Mahaparinirvana Sutra which is considered the "final teaching" of the Buddha Shakyamuni.  This set of teachings emphasises that all people have the "seed" of enlightenment within them and by acting with compassion and concern for others, everyone can cultivate that seed and find their true self.

Shinnyo-en is a place for people to discover and develop the buddha or awakened nature, within themsleves through altruistic Buddhist practice.

Shinnyo Buddhists promote the values of peaceful coexistence and cooperation through the works of philanthropic foundations, and place great value on the contributions that each individual can make toward life on our planet.  Everyone's spiritual journey is unique, and Shinnyo-en offers a diverse environment where we can all grow and cultivate their aspiration for enlightenment.

Shinnyo-en UK was established in 1994.  We offer various Buddhist's training and support for individual spiritual development.
